Brain Boot Camp

admin

Is getting more exercise among your New Year’s resolutions? Well, how about some training for your brain instead? Researchers have put people through a series of brain exercises – a “brain boot camp” – and found that just like exercise for your body, exercise for your brain pays off. www.sciencentral.com

@CalebTheGuitarist less than 10% but yes, the brain is capable of developing a much more intrecate neural network than an average person developes during his/her life

  • CalebTheGuitarist Says:

develop, access, whatever. am i wrong to say we only use less than 1% of our brain? thats what ive always heard…

  • liner986 Says:

@CalebTheGuitarist lol access to the entire brain? lmao, u develope ur brain, u dont access it

  • bykuzplastiku69 Says:

That would be the case if dual n-back, the test shown in video, used the same or similar sequence over and over again. Instead it forces you to constantly shift your working memory improving your ability to process information which is the purpose of all this mental workout

  • Skates2much Says:

@KaminoStryfe lol. i guess it helped everything except speech

  • jan4tube Says:

    no.

    “not trained for.”

  • ZombieJesusBrainz Says:

according the paper, the control group did improve, probably due to reasons you just outlined, but the significant thing is the improvement in the trained group was well above the improvement of the control group on the test.

Does this make sense? I hope I was helpful…
    :-)

  • likeprestige Says:

So, the participants didn’t get better via a trial and error method (learning from experience) but instead through the training they received while playing Dual-n-back, which apparently is linked to increasing one’s working memory; working memory which is closely associated to fluid intelligence.

  • likeprestige Says:

What is actually mentioned in the video is the fact that the participants that were part of the experimental group actually improved on solving “new” problems presented to them after consistent Dual-n-back training regimes.

    bushkill :D haha

  • CalebTheGuitarist Says:

your exactly right. that seems very likely. but i do still find this interesting.. the brain is a powerful thing. we take it for granted BIG time. if only we had access to our entire brains… who knows what secrets we could unlock

  • freetothinkify Says:

If I see a type of problem, fail it, but see it again, I get better. I don’t think my IQ changes though. I just know which direction not to go. Could that be what happened during the second test?

  • KaminoStryfe Says:

what is a jacket of clothes?

  • cptblade16 Says:

dlamberson: If we don’t have minds then how are we individuals? Everyone sees out of their one eyes and lives in their own body. How is this possible without a mind or spirit?

  • pleabargain Says:

Around 0:40 he says that they were able to solve new problems more efficiently.

  • dlamberson Says:

shut up, with your “mind” shit! I’m sick of it

  • patmathis Says:

So you gave a test, then regave it, and the second time around people got better scores?

    Surely you jest.

  • egrue99 Says:

i dont think so. not unless they were told before the testing, “practicing this will actually make you smarter!”…but that would break basic experimental procedure. :)

  • Confuzedd Says:

hmmm, anyone here think it could be placebo? Or maybe the actual score increase was from the increased confidence in volunteers?

  • intelegens Says:

Its not the brain! The brain is a pattern map
for physical signals only…Therefore it’s the
mind becoming relaxed with itself…or pure flow of sef intel!I have used this plenty of
    times…

  • ImFromCannaboidia Says:

rofl he was probably like “quick, time to take george w. bush’s crash course to presidency 101 training!”

  • scissormetimbers8 Says:

nah, his ears arent fucked up enough

  • damgle Says:

Martin Bushkill?!? aint that a bitch..! ha ha.

  • GWOZ0Z0 Says:

    lol
“yes we can” get smarter, i “hope”
